Pain

“There was a pain
I inhaled it
Silently,
Like a cigarette.
There are a few songs
I’ve flicked off
Like ashes
From a cigarette.”

      ——– Amrita Pritam

On the surface, everything looks fine. But there’s a dull aching pain lurking in your heart. That feeling of missing someone intensely. That time of the evening when the neon-lit streets look dark and desolate. That’s the time you just want to throw all that you have in your life for an exchange of another hug, another glance, another heart-felt conversation. The person takes over your physical and meta-physical being. Life like a drunken man’s speech becomes a slur. Even you can’t understand why you are feeling what you are feeling. And why must life be so painful?

But then life’s a puzzle. It has to be lived. Even though your heart is writhing in pain.

About Deepika Sahu

I earn my living through writing stories, editing what other people write (in simple terms I am a journalist). I dream of opening a cafeteria in the mountains, owning a beach home on the shores of Bay of Bengal... but right now, they all seem like wild dreams.. A gypsy at heart --- am passionate about life, music, words, cooking for people I love, soaking in the lashing rain and just looking at the changing colours of the sky.... And I am a great fan of the Indian Railways and I long to travel in First Class AC coupe across India.....with my man
